Political and transportation challenges mean that some villages in Demoso Township have been inaccessible for the township health department.

But, through support from 3MDG implementing partners - International Rescue Committee and International Organization for Migration - midwife Daw Saw Moe became one of the first basic health staff members to access these communities and now visits regularly. Before her visits, she received training from 3MDG.

On one of these visits, Ma Phyu, who is a mother with three children, came to see Daw Saw Moe to receive immunizations for her youngest child. She shared what these visits have meant for her family, saying: “Before the midwife came to our village, we had no chance to learn about nutrition, but now, with frequent visits from our midwife, I have learnt a lot about caring for my children.“

Now, Ma Phyu knows about the importance of feeding her baby breast milk until six months of age, when he will begin to eat solid food. 3MDG support in these remote areas has allowed health service providers to share their knowledge with the community, and enable positive behavior change.
